# 🌳 How to Use DSM (Digital Surface Model) Tools

## Learn how to view and modify trees, terrain, and surface heights in your project using the DSM menu.

### 📂 Step 1: Open the DSM Menu

- On the **left sidebar**, click **DSM**.
- The menu will show what **types of trees** exist in your project.

### 🌲 Step 2: Understand Tree Assumptions

Two assumptions are applied to trees by default:

1. **Attenuation** inside the trees.
2. **Opening underneath** the canopy.

### 📚 Step 3: Select or Customize Tree Types

- Use the built-in **tree database** to select a type.
- Or, create a **custom tree type** with your own parameters.

### 🏞️ Step 4: Modify DSM Height in 3D

1. Switch to **3D View** to see the existing trees or terrain.
2. Switch back to **2D View** if you want to make modifications.

### ✏️ Step 5: Flatten an Area

1. In DSM tools, click **Modify DSM Heights**.
2. Choose a drawing tool (e.g., **Scribe** or **Rectangle**).
3. Draw a **closed polygon** around the target area.
4. Set DSM height = `0` (flatten).
5. Click **Save** → the selected area becomes flat.

### ⛰️ Step 6: Raise an Area

1. Go to **2D View** → **DSM tools**.
2. Draw a **rectangle** over the area.
3. Set DSM height (e.g., `40 ft`).
4. Click **Save** → the area is raised to the new height.

### 🔄 Step 7: Reset to Original DSM

- To restore the project:
  
    1. Click **Modify DSM Height**.
    2. Select **Reset to Original DSM**.
    3. All changes revert to the original terrain data.

---

✅ You can now control tree effects, flatten surfaces, raise terrain, or restore DSM data to its original state.
