🌳 How to Modify DSM and DTM in an Outdoor Project

Use the DSM menu to adjust trees, flatten terrain, change surface elevations, or restore the original outdoor model.

🧭 Step 1: Open the DSM Menu

  • In your outdoor project, open the DSM menu.
  • Switch to 3D View to inspect the environment.
  • You’ll be able to see:
    • Trees
    • Terrain elevation changes
    • Areas where the surface height varies

🌲 Step 2: Modify Tree Behavior

You have two ways to adjust trees:

  1. Change the tree type
    • Update the balance between trunk and canopy
    • Adjust attenuation inside the canopy
  2. Remove trees entirely
    • Use Modify DSM Heights
    • Draw a custom area around the trees
    • Set the height to 0
    • Click Save

This removes the trees from the selected area.

🔄 Step 3: Restore Original Trees

  • To bring removed trees back:
    1. Go to Modify
    2. Select Reset to Original
  • The original DSM data is restored.

📏 Step 4: Measure Terrain Changes

  • Turn on Measurements to understand the existing terrain.
  • This helps you identify:
    • Lowest elevation points
    • Height differences across the selected area
    • Areas that may need flattening or adjustment

✏️ Step 5: Flatten or Adjust Terrain

  1. Draw an area over the part of the terrain you want to modify.
  2. Review the existing elevation range.
  3. Enter a new target elevation value.
  4. Apply the elevation change.

The selected area will update to the new height.

🏞️ Step 6: Verify the Change

  • After applying the new elevation, the terrain in that area becomes:
    • Flattened, or
    • Adjusted to the height you specified

Use 3D View to confirm the result visually.

🔁 Step 7: Reset Terrain to Original

  • To restore the original terrain:
    1. Open the Modify options
    2. Select Reset Terrain
  • The area returns to its original elevation profile.

✅ You can now use the DSM menu to control both vegetation and terrain elevation, making it easy to model cleared land, flattened surfaces, or updated site conditions.
